A few weeks ago, my friend and I were discussing about the pharmacy industry in China.

"China has a great future if you can concerntrate and develope those Chinese herbal medicines,  standarlizing stuffs. But I believe the problem lies on the fact there's a shortage of experts who can lead controlled clinical trials."

The first thing came out of my mouth was, "Thank god they don't have!"

"You know China, everything is controlled by the government, and every officer in China is money/benefit driven. If you pay enough money, they'll let you pass. Whether your clinical trials generate enough scientific significance or not. So if they do have enough expert, probably many innocent lives will be taken and all the accidents will be settled by money.

"The integrity of acedemic world in China is not to be trusted. For god sake, even publishing on acedemic journals needs to pay first in China!" I further explained.

Am I wrong of saying this?

    Probably not.

From some Chinese I've talked to, no one can deny me the fact Chinese govenment officers are taking benefits from civilians all the time and they'll take pisses at you if you've got nothing for them. More serious situation is called corruption.

I don't really mind the corruption. Get the money you want, but be fair and nice, will you?

So A was going to get a chance to take an exam for the scholarship he dreamt of. But B took the chance from him simply becuase B's parents are good friends of the mayor's. The fact that A is so much better than B, and B didn't get the scholarship matters not.

In the eyes of Chinese people, they believe it's the right choice for the headmaster to give B the opportunity. In this way, the mayor will note he owns the headmaster a favour, and this favour might do some good for the school in the near future.

On the other hand, they also believe this sort of thing is a common and universal phenomenon in the world, not just in China.

In their opinion, the whole world is distorted, and it somehow becomes normal.

But what they forget is, can China give a list of MP expenses to the public? Will China stop being frightened by the power of media and give up the tight control to both foreign and local media? Not in a million years. The problem with Chinese goverment, is that it is monitored by nobody.

But what do I care? It matters nothing to me ever since I took the scholarship.
