    Brave Marshall

Helicobacter pylori is another nasty bacteria that we all hate. It causes peptic ulcers disease (I'm being nice so this is 胃溃疡 in Chinese), or in some cases, even gastric cancer. But the story of how people are convinced H. pylori causes such diseases is an absolutely sexy one.

Robin Warren (Pathologist) is the first one who related bacteria infection to gastric mucosal lining inflammation. But it is Barry Marshall (Physician) who then was intrigued by this finding, and teamed up with Warren, and began their research on such bacteria, which was later recognized as H.pylori.

Neither as scientists, nor owning fancy equipments, their finding, that H.pylori causes peptic ulcers disease, was greeted with skeptisms. Their first presentation was rejected outright. Warren was quite a shy guy, so it's down to Marshall to defend themselves. What did he do? He was so bloody charming that being a really stubborn, confident and brave person, Marshall drank their H.pylori culture and shut the mouth of all the objectors. Becuase of those high conc of bacteria culture he drank, he expectedly developed peptic ulcer, and after treatment of simple anti-biotics, he was cured.

Here is a picture of Barry Marshall. Isn't he gorgeous??

In the end, of course, he's got Nobel Prize.

Doctor Who Opening Credit - The Tudors Style

Came cross this accidentally. But it is really BRILLIANT!! The thing is, the editor obviously captured the essence of every companion. Especially love the introduction of Mickey. It does not suit the story of doctor who though. Makes it looking like romantic drama.

    Other Stuffs

    Private Life of Plants:

Another fantastic documentary by Sir David Attenborough.(Remember Planted Earth? This is a earlier one though.) The first time I watched it in class (shown at one of my tutorials), I was completely hooked. How can plants have so much strategies for survival? I'm starting to have doubts for Darwin's Nature Selection now!

    Q.I.

Am seriously addicted to Q.I.now. I just can't resist when Stephen Fry seems to know everything. Or is it his nature to know everything? And also lots of fun from the panelists too! I especially love the bits that talked about the "Paris Syndrome". Stupid Japanese people and dreadful French people, I can't agree more!

The following video made me laugh so hard, that my tummy hurt. And also, poor Fry!
